The Motivation Myth: Achieving Success When You Don’t Feel Like It

We often hear that motivation is the key to success—that you need to feel inspired, driven, and excited to take action in your business. But what if that’s not true? What if waiting for motivation is actually holding you back from becoming successful?
If you’re a mumpreneur trying to build a business while managing a busy household, you’ll know that some days, motivation just isn’t there. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed, comparing yourself to others, or just exhausted from life. But here’s the biggest secret to success:
You don’t need motivation to be successful—you just need to take action.
In this post, I’ll break down why relying on motivation is a trap, and how you can keep moving forward in your business—even when you don’t feel like it.

Why Motivation Isn’t Reliable
There are plenty of reasons why you might not feel motivated today:
You see other business owners succeeding faster (Even though they may have started after you) and your feeling a little discouraged.
You’ve put in so much effort but haven’t seen any of the results yet.
Life happens—kids, stress, exhaustion.
But here’s the thing: Motivation is not a feeling—it’s an action. If you tell yourself ‘I don't feel motivated to create content today”, then guess what mama? You won’t do it.
Instead, ask yourself:
“What action do I need to take to get the result I want?”
If you don’t create content…
🚫 You won’t add value to your audience.
🚫 You won’t build relationships.
🚫 No one will know who you are or what you offer.
🚫 Which means… no business!
Success isn’t about waiting to feel ready—it’s about taking those strategic, intentional steps forward.
How to Stay Consistent (Even When You’re Not Motivated)
Set Clear Goals That Actually Matter
It’s easy to say, “I want to make money”, but money alone isn’t a strong enough reason to push through those tough days.
Instead, get crystal clear on your WHY:
✔ Do you want more free time with your kids?
✔ Do you want to replace your 9-5 income so you can work for yourself?
✔ Do you want to prove to yourself that you CAN do this?

Write down what your big goal is and don’t forget to note down the emotional reason behind it. A thought without a feeling will never leave your head. If your goal doesn’t spark a feeling, it won’t drive you to take action.
Reverse Engineer Your Success
Once you have your big goal, work backwards to figure out the steps you need to take.
For Example: If your goal is to launch your coaching business so that you can reduce your hours at work…
You already know you need 3 paying clients to cover the cost per month - reverse engineer it
✔ The step before that would be getting clients on discovery calls
✔ And then the step before that would be reaching out to prospective clients and building those relationships
✔ And then the step before that would be to show up consistently and create content that attracts clients.
✔ And before that you’d find out what content would resonate with your target audience
✨So first you would have to get clear on who you help and how.
Try writing down the next 3 steps you need to take to get to your big goal. Break them down into small, manageable action steps that fit around your life with kids.
Create a Routine & Time Block Your Priorities
So many of my clients come to me saying that they don't have the time to build their business. And my answer is ‘you don’t “find time” to work on your business—you make time.
✔Wake up an hour before the kids to get focused work done.
✔Stay up an hour later once they’re in bed.
✔ Ask your partner to take over dinner one night a week so you can work.
All the time you're treating your business like a hobby, that's all it's going to be … an expensive one at that!
Tony Robbins says, “Where your intention goes, energy flows.” The more intentional you are about your time, the more opportunities you’ll create for yourself and your family .
So let's get to it. Take a look at your schedule and find 3 time slots that you can use to work on your business this week, even if it's just 20 minutes here and there. Add it into your calendar as if you would a play date or appointments, make it official.
Use Accountability to Keep You on Track
Telling yourself “I’ll do it later” often leads to never doing it at all. But knowing that someone is waiting to hear “ Guess what I’ve just finished ” can be the extra push you need.

You can use:
✔Trello, Notion, or Asana for project management.
✔Google or Notion Calendar for time blocking.
✔ Flora - Green Focus to keep you focused and reduce 10 minute doom scrolls
✔Habit tracker apps to keep you accountable.
You don't need to struggle with 1000 sticky notes stuck to your desk and surrounding area - download one productivity task management tool and help yourself to stay focused.
Celebrate Every Win even the tiny ones
If you feel like you're not getting anywhere, I can tell you the exact reason - you don't celebrate the small wins. You breeze past them looking ahead at the big goal but here is the thing mama, entrepreneurialism is a journey and if you don’t stop to smell the roses once and a while, you'll end up overwhelmed, stressed and burnt out.

✔Did you post content today? Amazing! That’s one step closer to attracting clients.
✔Reached out to a potential lead? Woo-hoo! You’re growing your business!
✔Showed up for yourself? That’s HUGE! Pat yourself on the back
Have a little moment and reflect - write down 3 things you’ve accomplished in your business this month - even if they're small.
So, remember the truth about motivation is that the action comes first, motivation doesn’t create action—action creates motivation. And the more action you take, the easier it gets, I promise 👑
Go out and make it happen, mama—you got this!
